I Am Voting in Honor Of…
Get out there and vote in honor of someone in your history, who legally, could not. Our right to do so was fought for by brave women and men. The apathetic, “I don’t like either candidate so I’m thinking about not voting” makes me get up on my soapbox and shout out loud, “This is your right! Now exercise it!”
Today, I am voting in honor of my Grandma McKnight. She was born in 1902 and could not vote when she was 18. The 19th amendment was not ratified until 1920.
I love to vote. It is one of my happiest moments to wait in line and finally get my ballot. My choice. My choice that was given to me by brave people who knew the right to do so was worth risking their lives.
I have been bringing my daughter along with me to the voting poll since she was an infant. She can’t wait to be able to exercise her right to vote and I couldn’t be prouder.
Enjoy this beautiful day of freedom. Wear your “I voted” sticker proudly and know that today, you voted and that your vote honored someone from your past, who could not.
